FOUNDATIONS STEP 1
Know Where You Want to Go
Set clear goals across all areas of life. Without direction, you're just wandering.
Why Goal-Setting Matters
Most people drift through life without clear targets. They react to what happens instead of creating what they want. Goal-setting changes that.
When you know exactly what you want and by when, you can work backward to create a plan. This isn't just about money—it's about designing the life you actually want.
Multiple Life Domains
- •Family: Time with loved ones, relationships, celebrations
- •Skills: Education, training, personal development
- •Spiritual: Purpose, meaning, contribution to others
- •Financial: Savings, investments, wealth building
Three Time Horizons
- •Long-term (3-5 years): Big vision items
- •Mid-term (6-12 months): Major milestones
- •Short-term (this month): Immediate actions
The Framework
Define Your Long-Term Vision
Where do you want to be in 3-5 years? Be specific. Don't just say "be wealthy"—define what that means for you.
Example:
"By December 2028, I want to have $200,000 in invested assets, own my home outright, and have the skills to earn $150k/year doing work I love."
Work Backward to Milestones
What needs to happen 6-12 months before you reach that goal? Break it down into achievable milestones.
Example:
"By June 2026: Have $50k saved, pay off consumer debt, complete online course in high-value skill."
Create This Month's Actions
What can you do this month to move toward those milestones? Schedule it on your calendar.
Example:
"This month: Set up automated savings of $500/week, research online courses, review budget to find $200 extra."
💡 Pro Tip from Adrian:
I've used this exact framework for 20+ years. The magic isn't in the template—it's in reviewing it weekly. Every Sunday, I check: "Did I do what I said I'd do?" If not, why? That weekly discipline compounds into life-changing results.
